Westlakes Automobile Club was first formed in October 1965 when a group of 3 people decided to meet regularly and participate in various motorsport events.

Over the years, the club has grown and is presently the largest sporting car club in the Newcastle area with over 300 current members and at least half of those being competitors.

The club resides in Toronto - 30 mins south of Newcastle - and has built a motorsport complex at Awaba, only 5 mins away. Awabawac Park contains a 3km rallysprint course, 3 1km khanacross courses, and 5 motorkhana paddocks - all on dirt. A new acquisition for 2003 is a piece of land in the town of Karuah, about 45 minutes north of Newcastle. On this new land several khanacross tracks will be built and possibly a rallysprint track in the future to complement the Awabawac Park complex.

Westlakes Automobile Club has been home to several NSW championship winning drivers in the Motorkhana, Khanacross, Rallysprint, and Rally arenas.

With the help of its members, the club has been able to achieve several firsts for motorsport. Two of these examples are:

  • first club in NSW to use computer timing, to the hundredth of a second, for rallysprints,
  • first and only club allowed to use the old Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah for tar speed events

Club meetings are held on the last Friday of each month (except December) at the Toronto Multi-Purpose Centre, Thorne Street, Toronto at 7:00pm. All members and visitors are welcome
