Well done Richard "McRae" Troup. I hope it wasn't too damaged but by the look of that jump and subsequent smoke... Well!

Nice feature with the jump into water MGCC.

Feedback from competitor emails and forum discussions

“Lots of fresh blood out there today trying to make the day work, first time for many. ”
“Great day - well organised.”
“Thanks MGCC for an entertaining day. There were more officials than competitors, which was a bit of a disappointment, but you guys worked your butts off and it's much appreciated.”
“Thanks to Greg, Bill, Gregor and their team of helpers. The day was well run; facilities and catering excellent.”
“Well this was the first (rallysprint) event run by the MG Car Club for over 15 years. They would have to be disappointed at only 11 entries. However the organisers did a great job on the day and we the competitors had some fun.”
“The Track has some potential for future events and with further work on the surface it could become a popular destination for rally sprint people. Thanks again to all concerned I hope Ringwood really kicks on.” … Wayne Bell
“Looks like you had a blast. Will pencil it in for next year!”
“I thought the site had huge potential and was hoping to work with The MGCC and people such as yourself to develop the track much like the old Nelsons Plains Dirt circuit, that use to be heaps of fun. Now we watch with interest as all the Bull starts over a racing circuit development proposal. I do wish them every success.
Cheers.” Wayne Bell
“Sorry to hear the (dirt) track is to be replaced - on the whole it was quite fun and technical and a good exercise in car control.”
“It was a great day – the track was fantastic – it’s a shame there won’t be another Rallysprint there.”

So Bill any chance of taking these comments and hitting the committee over the head with them to maybe get use of some land for rallysprints? If not everyday you get an offer from someone with the experience of Wayne Bell.

Ps. for those who may not know of Wayne, just google Wayne Bell and rallying (and/or WRC) and yep, thats the guy who we had at the rallysprint.

Unfortunately the c/t heads are more concerned with extending the hillclimb than looking for a new dirt property. The fact that we only had ten entries, made a financial loss, and that I wore out the grader and tractor preparing this event that was twice postponed will only give them more fuel to discount meeting a need they have twice minuted to do.

A survey that very few members filled out is being used to justify their tar push. I have asked for a new one that might this time be worded to also include replacing our dirt facilities, but so far without success.

I face a severe uphill battle with not only little support but sadly also powerful opposition. I'm worn out and don't know if I have the emotional energy to have to keep on fighting for everything in the face of no encouragement or even recognition of the very high standard of dirt events we've been running. I'm not sure where I go from here.

Is there any room for a dirt hillclimb @ Ringwood? Why bother extending the hillclimb if we are building a circuit? Maybe where the committee wants to extend the hillclimb it could be just a dirt hillclimb track & not tar?
Hold the k/xs, m/ks & rallysprints @ WAC?

Bill, the Club is a specific make organisation. The way I see it, you will never win as I haven't seen an MG doing a rally sprint or Khanacross. Thanks and best of luck with your efforts.

It is and it isn't. Our motto is "MGs and Motorsport", and the club has a very strong and long history in rallying. Over three quarters of the membership do not, nor never have, nor never will own the marque. When I was in the Mini Car Club of NSW it never mattered what brand you drove, and the cameraderie was fantastic.

The problem in being a one make car club is that you usually die as the brand dies. It always takes a long time, but in the end you nearly always end up with a tiny group of old guys standing round reminiscing and wondering why no new people come anymore. A classic example was a pidgeon racing club that recently closed in Sydney. All that was left was the last guy and the honor boards that had nowhere to hang anymore. He still couldn't figure out what went wrong. They'd all been faithful to those grey homing birds - but in the end their exclusion of all else is what killed them off.

WAC is a vital club because although it has traditions it is not bound by them. It adapts itself to meet the changing needs of its members, and it's committee is open and responsive to change. When a club with a historical base loses the basis which gave it birth it can either adapt or slowly die. It all depends who's in charge.

When the majority of your members want to race aeroplanes not birds, and the breed of bird you adore is just about extinct, those "plane radicals" will soon move away and form a new club... when the pidgeons and planes could have stayed together for the mutual prosperity of all. Better to have the plane guys using your club house, than be shutting the door because no-one... not even the true believers ... are interested in pidgeons anymore.

"Tabletop" was immensely popular with most khanacross guys & even our local girls who ran over it. But the rallysprint guys in their expensive cars hated it. The MG committee instantly re-routed the track around it at the next khanacross, making just another reason for me to resign as Rally Co-Ordinator.
The jump then was completely removed by those who took over MG dirt track prep. Pity they didn't make maintaining the tracks their top priority of time and resources instead, as they've since had to cancel two khanacrosses since then.

But yes - it did make great video footage. My U-tubes of everyone who jumped over it are very popular around the world in places as remote as even the Ukraine, Sweden, Germany, France and right across Britain, the USA and Canada as my viewer statistics show. Four thousand views and still going strong.

Steve I'm pretty sure the guys told me they'd bent the front chassis rails that day... so you may have found it in the "hospital" alright. Can't think how they did that!

Quite right; the one at Glendale TAFE was mine. Both chassis rails bent at the tow point attachment. Now straight :)
